Define Articles and its kinds?


Articles:

Articles are not a separate part of speech. They are adjectives as they are used to qualify noun or pronoun.
Kinds of Articles:
There are two types of Articles:
•    Definite Articles
•    Indefinite Articles
Definite Articles:
“The” is a definite article as it refers to particular noun or pronoun.
For examples:
1.    The Titanic sank in the sea.
2.    The News V is an American magazine.
3.    She is the woman who was asking about you.
4.    The rich should help the poor.

Indefinite Articles:
“A” and “An” are indefinite articles as they refer to a common noun or pronoun in singular.
For examples:
1.    My friend is a Doctor.
2.    Your father is a man.
3.    Mr. John is an M.A while his friend is a S.D.O.
4.    It is an H.B.O presentation.
General Information about Articles:  
  1.  Generally, no article is placed before material noun and abstract noun.   
  2. Before the names of rivers, seas, ships, mountains, books, nations, newspaper, magazines, canals, directions, province, and before the superlative degree of adjective,” The” is placed.  
  3.  When we want to particularize a noun, we place article “The” before it
  4. Some adjectives like rich, poor, strong, weak, young, old, blind, sick, holy, pious, virtuous, noble etc take article “The” before them when they are used as plural noun.    
  5. When man is made to represent his whole class, “The” is not place before him while some animals, birds, or insects is made to represent his whole class, “The” is placed before it.   
  6. When two or more adjectives refer to a noun or a pronoun, article is placed before the first one.    
  7. We place “a” before those things which do not give ‘a’ sound while “an” is placed before those words which give ‘a’ sound.   
  8.  “The” is used as an adverb with comparatives.
