Define Sentence? kinds of Sentence.
Sentence:
A group of words which makes complete sense is called
sentence.
For examples:
1. He laughed.
2. They wept.
3. He sang last night.
4. We won the match.
11) Assertive
Sentence:
It
is a sentence which contains a statement. It is also called declarative
sentence.
Assertive
sentence is further divided into two sentences:
I. Affirmative Sentence.
II. Negative sentence.
Affirmative sentence:
It is a sentence that simply affirms or tells us something.
It is also called positive sentence.
For examples:
a) Flowers blossom everywhere in spring.
b) She wrote a poem last night.
c) John is a good singer.
Negative Sentence:
It is a sentence which denies something.
For examples:
a. He doesn’t attend the classes regularly.
b. She has not eaten something.
c. She doesn’t like roses.
2) Interrogative
Sentence:
It
is a sentence in which some question is asked in order to seek information.
For
examples:
a. Are you
taking this examination this year?
b. Will you
help us in solving this problem?
c. Where have
our old friends gone?
d. Who is
making fun of us?
e. Where is
your father right now?
3) Imperative
Sentence:
It
is a sentence which expresses some command/order, request, and piece of advice
or proposal.
For
examples:
a. Run away
from here.
b. Let us
study together.
c. Be a good
boy and always obey your parents.
4) Exclamatory
Sentence:
It
is a sentence which expresses some sudden feelings or emotions of joy, wonder
or grief.
For
examples:
a. Hurrah! We won the match.
b. Alas! We have failed badly.
5) Optative
Sentence:
It
is a sentence which expresses some prayer, wish or curse.
For
examples:
c. May you live long, my son!
d. We wish we were prosperous!
e. Would that you were dead!
